A Birthday to Forget

Cap stared up at the faint stars from where he lay on the very tip of the Tower, all but drowned out by the city lights and the booming, brilliant flowers filling the sky, and for a moment, loathed that his birthday fell on the day of America’s independence. While he didn’t begrudge the populous, he just…he got very tired of being forgotten. He understood why, of course…but for as long as he could remember, he’d been shunted aside, all attention on the brilliant streamers in the sky. 

And he didn’t even like fireworks to begin with.

So, he turned on his side and closed his eyes, and sought the calmness that usually filled him, that subtle flow of endorphin and serotonin that soothed his anxiety. Perhaps he could just…sleep through it all. Again. After all…he had a lot of practice.
